We’re Africans. We grew up in West Africa. On the coast, hence the palm trees.
We take our name - African Looking Glass - from Lewis Carroll’s “Through the Looking Glass,” where nothing is quite what it seems. Clocks run backwards. Garden paths go nowhere. We tell the stories of everyday experiences of Africans that don’t quite turn out as expected. Like our logo, our stories have a twist or pack a punch. They may be funny, shocking, silly but never boring. They are always true or inspired by real-events. We’ve changed the names of the individuals involved. Sometimes we change the names of the places, when it is not the key point in the story. Saves embarrassment or offense. Tell us your stories and we’ll share them also. They need to be funny or shocking or silly. They need to pack a punch or have a twist. Stories can’t be offensive. As Africans make their way in the world, our unique experiences of everyday life should encourage, inspire and help us get through the absurd things we may experience. We can’t take everything too personally.
